Lee unhappy with Careless Riding Ban Jockey Billy Lee has lodged an appeal with the Turf Club over the decision of the Sligo stewards to suspend him for two days for careless riding. Lee completed an opening race double at Sligo on Sunday but had to survive a lengthy stewards' enquiry before his second winner Northern Surprise was deemed official. Northern Surprise impeded the runner-up Tom Dooley when hanging right in the straight and with only half-a-length between the pair at the finish it was touch and go as to whether or not the result would stand. The Sligo stewards deemed that while Northern Surprise had not improved his position by causing interference his rider Billy Lee had broken the rules and handed him two separate suspensions - 2 days for excessive use of his whip and 2 days for careless riding. It is the careless riding ban that Lee has now appealed.
