Leger favourite a doubt for Doncaster

Connections of Nathaniel have warned the ante-post favourite for the Ladbrokes St Leger is far from certain to line up in the Doncaster Classic.

John Gosden's Galileo colt confirmed the promise of his narrow second to Derby runner-up Treasure Beach in the Chester Vase by running away with Friday's King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot in rain-softened ground.

He is as low as 9-4 in a place for the world's oldest Classic but James Wigan, racing manager for owner Lady Rothschild, insists the Town Moor test is not at the top of the youngster's agenda.

"We were very happy with him at Royal Ascot. He did it very well and has come out of the race well," said Wigan.

"The St Leger is an option, but I would say it is more unlikely than likely at this stage.

"I think we'll look at some of the very good mile and a half races and the St Leger wouldn't be my favourite destination for him at the moment, but we'll see.

"I don't want to pinpoint any races for him. We're very happy with the horse and there are all sorts of possibilities."
