Leger hope Beekeeper sold Beekeeper, a leading fancy for the Rothmans Royals St Leger, has been sold by Highclere Thoroughbred Racing on the eve of his run in tomorrow`s Great Voltigeur Stakes at York. The Sir Michael Stoute-trained colt will run in the unfamiliar brown and white colours of Sheikh Mohammed`s second son Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed Al Maktoum as he bids to boost his claim for next month`s Doncaster Classic.'We were offered a very substantial sum of money. One`s never eager to sell when the horse is about to run in a Group Two race but if the price is right it has very much been our policy,' Highclere Thoroughbred`s managing director Harry Herbert said today.'We wish Sheikh Mohammed and his son every success with the horse and we look forward with the rest of the syndicate to him running, hopefully very well, tomorrow and maybe going on to the St Leger from that.'I can`t disclose how much money was involved but obviously it was a substantial sum.'Beekeeper is 7-1 third favourite for the St Leger following his victory under top weight in the King George V Handicap at Royal Ascot in June.
