Leicester abandoned

This afternoon's jumps meeting at Leicester has been abandoned due to snow on the track.

Clerk of the course Jimmy Stevenson drew stumps following an 8.15am inspection which found little improvement from what was already a wintry scene on Saturday.

Stevenson said: "The frost is not really the issue, it's the snow. It just isn't shifting - some of it has also turned to ice - so we've had to abandon."

Meanwhile Monday's jumps fixture at Doncaster is subject to a 2pm inspection this afternoon.

The situation in South Yorkshire does not look too promising at this stage as the track is unraceable due to a covering of snow.

Overnight temperatures stayed just above freezing, but Saturday saw little in the way of a thaw.

Clerk of the course Roderick Duncan said: "We need improvement as the track is not raceable.

"But if the weather does what it's forecast to do, and we see some improvement by 2pm, there will be some hope."
