Leopardstown Grade 1 next up for Mallowney

The Paddy Power Dial-A-Bet Chase is the likely next port of call for Mallowney following his heartbreaking defeat at Cork on Sunday.

Tim Doyle's stable star looked the likely winner of the Grade Two Hilly Way Chase at the Mallow circuit after cruising to the front approaching the final fence, but he was reeled in by Felix Yonger on the run-in and got caught on the line by a nose.

While disappointed to be beaten so narrowly, Doyle feels the run proved his charge is up to competing at the top level and he is likely to do so at Leopardstown on December 27.

Doyle said: "I'm delighted with how the horse performed, but to get caught on the line like that is obviously hard to take.

"He ran a cracker. I thought he jumped exceptionally well and I think he's probably a better horse on better ground.

"I just felt he idled when he hit the front. He looked to have his ears pricked from the last and then got done.

"We're contemplating running at Leopardstown over Christmas. If everything goes well between now and then, that's probably what we'll do.

"He's a more relaxed horse this year and he's probably improved as well.

"He'll have to improve again stepping up to Grade One level, but he's entitled to take his chance."
