Lillie and Alfred chase pots of gold

Two of Aidan O’Brien’s top juveniles, Lillie Langtry and Alfred Noble, head to Newmarket this afternoon on recovery missions having both failed to run up to form on their most recent starts.

Lillie Langtry was a beaten odds-on favourite for the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes last time, while Alfred Noble also ran below expectations when trailing home in the Group 1 Vincent O’Brien National Stakes.

The pair run in two valuable Tattersalls Sales races at Newmarket and while these contests don’t carry Group status the £500,000 first prizes cannot be sniffed at in these depressed times.

On a big weekend for Ballydoyle Johnny Murtagh travels to Newmarket today to partner the two-year-olds before flying on to Paris for Sunday’s Arc day at Longchamp.
