Limato back in Sprint Cup picture

Limato was reintroduced into the betting for the 32Red Sprint Cup after trainer Henry Candy suggested the July Cup hero might take his chance in the Haydock Group One on Saturday after all.

Limato had been ante-post favourite at around 3-1 but bookmakers removed him from their lists last week as Candy felt the race might come too soon following his second behind Mecca's Angel in the Nunthorpe Stakes at York earlier this month.

However, Candy reports the four-year-old to be in "good form" and, with largely dry weather forecast, he could run instead of Twilight Son.

"If it came up too firm for Twilight Son and if Limato looked in the sort of form that he could cope with it, then he would run," said the Wantage handler.

"It would be the closest between races that he's ever attempted. He's in good form."

Candy is also happy with Twilight Son but he would wait for the Qipco British Champions Sprint at Ascot in October if there was not enough cut in the ground.

"He's in great shape," he said.

"The ground is the one deciding factor. If it isn't right for him, he won't run.

"It looks like it could be dry for most of the week, so it's a bit 50-50 at the moment."

Limato is around 5-1 behind Quiet Reflection, who heads the market at a best-priced 9-2.

The three-year-old filly, who was third to Limato at Newmarket after winning the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot, has been delighting her trainer Karl Burke ahead of the six-furlong feature.

"She's in great form and all has gone well," said the North Yorkshire handler.

"Everything has gone smoothly so far, touch wood, and she did a real good bit of work the other morning."

Dancing Star and Mehronissa were supplemented as 19 horses remained in the big race at the five-day confirmation stage.

The Andrew Balding-trained Dancing Star booked her place with a clear-cut victory in the Stewards' Cup, while Ed Vaughan's Mehronissa came into the reckoning by winning the Listed Flying Fillies' Stakes at Pontefract.

Gordon Lord Byron, successful in this race three years ago for trainer Tom Hogan, is among three Irish possibles along with Eddie Lynam's veteran Sole Power and the Joe Murphy-trained three-year-old Only Mine.

The Charlie Hills-trained Magical Memory is likely to try again after just being touched off in third place 12 months ago.

Strath Burn, who was only beaten a short head by Twilight Son when second in 2015 for Hills, is now with trainer Robert Cowell.

James Fanshawe's The Tin Man is an interesting contender, while the list is completed by Goken, Suedois, Ajaya, Donjuan Triumphant, Kachy, Mr Lupton, Divine and Jane's Memory.
