The most valuable race comes in the form of a four-year-old plus handicap over a mile at 16:35. While many will view this as a good opportunity to get their season up and running, Stephen Thorne’s Artful Approach will look to build on his impressive run last time out at Leopardstown. The son of Mehmas made his debut for Stephen Thorne last time out, returning to the track after a 219 day lay off. A lot went wrong for him that day, but he still managed to get within a length of the race fit Dark Viper despite having to give him weight. He should come along well for that run and will have Jack Kearney claiming a handy 5lb. 18:25 Kilbeggan - Look to the West Look to the West is an interesting runner at Kilbeggan on Friday, with Rachel Blackmore and Henry de Bromhead combining once more. The Robcor representative was unable to justify favouritism last time out, but that race can be forgiven as she ran keenly and her jumping wasn’t fluent as a result. However, when taking her hurdle form into account, the seven-year-old faced some strong opponents including a win over Gavin Cromwell’s Biolumescence and a third-place finish in a Grade 3 behind Willie Mullins’ Jade de Grugy. She made her chasing debut after a 333-day absence from the track, and therefore may have needed the run suggesting she will have a great opportunity to make amends today. 19:25 Kilbeggan - Heroes Rise The final race at Kilbeggan is a beginners’ chase over an extended two-and-a-half-miles and Gordon Elliot holds a strong hand with Heroes Rise, who looks primed to go one better after narrowly missing out as favourite last time. The five-year-old remains relatively unexposed over fences, having had just one previous run over the larger obstacles. However, his proven ability as a point-to-point winner suggests it may only be a matter of time before he lands a victory in this discipline. The step up in trip should suit him perfectly and, with the in-form Danny Gilligan taking the ride and adding another layer of confidence, Heroes Rise appears to be a leading contender.
