Limerick hopeful after missing snow Limerick now appears to hold the best chance of racing in Ireland on St Stephen's Day, although the delay in milder weather arriving this weekend is a cause for concern. The Greenmount Park venue near Patrickswell has escaped the snow covering the vast majority of the country at present, and racecourse manager Russell Ferris is hopeful the four-day meeting can go ahead as scheduled from Sunday. “We have been lucky to miss the snow and, if temperatures rise to 5C or 6C on Christmas Day, we should be okay,” said Ferris on RTE Radio. However the forecast earlier this week of a thaw from Friday has been altered, with a significant rise in temperatures now not expected until Sunday accompanied by rain. Down Royal have already rescheduled their St Stephen's Day meeting to Thursday December 30 due to snow on the track, while there is currently eight inches of snow at Leopardstown. Alan Magee
