Limerick ready for largest Irish student event Limerick Races Student Raceday 2013 will take place on Thursday 11th of April at Greenmount Park. Last year 12,400 students attended the largest student event in Ireland and this year ticket sales indicate that the crowds will match last year’s attendance. New this year is a Best Dressed competition proudly sponsored by Irish beauty brand KARORA Cosmetics. KARORA will provide the winner of Best Dressed competition with a hamper of KARORA products along with gift bags for the runners up. Bronzing Guru, Karen Brown of KARORA commented: “We are thrilled to sponsor the Best Dressed student competition and are looking forward to spotting some fabulous young style on the day.” Students have referred to the day as “Mini Oxygen” and have been preparing for the raceday for a number of weeks. 3,000 tickets were sold in Limerick’s student unions the first week they went on sale. Bus services will also be operating in Limerick and visiting groups from Institutes around the country have booked in including Cork, Galway, Maynooth and Tipperary. Russell Ferris General Manager stated “The Spin Southwest Student Raceday is a fantastic experience, the atmosphere at last year’s event was electric and unlike anything I had experienced at any race meeting. Students are integral to the success of racing for the next generation and days like this have undoubtedly whetted the appetite and interest in horse racing.” Gates open from 2.30pm with the first of a seven race card off at 4.30pm. A SPIN Southwest Radio DJ will be broadcasting live from the racecourse on the day followed by live band Recoil until late.
