Limestone edged right in the closing stages of the MAC Hardware Irish EBF Rated Race at Listowel, but dug deep to score for Dylan Browne McMonagle and Joseph O'Brien.

The New Bay colt was backed from 7/4 to 5/4f and held a narrow lead rounding the home turn. He kicked on racing to the final furlong, but wasn't in yet as Redemption Road played his cards.

Limestone was always in front, but Redemption Road kept him more than honest and was carried to the right as Limestone edged off a straight line.

The favourite passed the post half a length up on the 11/1 runner-up.

Stable representative Michael Halford said: "Today seems to be all about being in the first two (positions) and all the winners are coming from being up with the pace. He was drawn in four and Plan A was to go forward, but I don't think it played to his strengths making the running as he was a bit green and got lonely.

"He is a lovely horse and I liked the way they pulled clear of the third. He was due that and I was impressed by the way he picked up early in the home straight."
