Ciaran Murphy struck for the second Friday night in succession on the all-weather, with his Little Keelie claiming the dundalkstadium.com Apprentice Handicap.

Sixth and fifth in recent starts at the Co Louth circuit, the Sioux Nation five-year-old was sent off a 5/1 chance this evening (touched 15/2 early).

Settled in mid-division by Adam Caffrey, the Slum Dog Racing Syndicate-owned victor took closer order approaching the straight and was soon ridden in third.

Getting to the front from the furlong pole, the 64-rated bay saw out the mile trip well, coming home three-quarters of a length to the good.

The Michael O'Callaghan trained Rockbury Lad (6/1) came from well off the pace and met with some trouble in running before finishing a never nearer second under Jamie Powell.

Bidding for a third win at the venue, Miss Abby Jools (5/1) was a neck away in third, while well-backed favourite Saxon Kingdom (9/1 to 9/2) could only manage a disappointing sixth.

"I think the strong gallop suited her and she had something to aim at," Murphy, who struck with Vierson last Friday, commented.

"It is the grade of race, down below 65, probably really suited her - either seven (furlongs) or a mile.

"We knew she was in good form coming this evening so, if she brings her 'A' game, it gives you a great chance.

"Adam was very good and very patient and very strong. He speaks for himself, the season he had last season. He hasn't ridden much for us, but we are delighted with that."
