World darts champion Luke Littler has spoken of his growing interest in horse racing on the back of his first involvement in ownership.

Littler has teamed up with fellow darts star Stephen Bunting and former England striker Michael Owen to buy an Ardad colt in training with Hugo Palmer.

Given the name Bunting Mental, Littler said should the venture go well the next horse will carry a name relevant to him.

“Leading up to Cheltenham, I was right into the horse racing,” Littler told the Press Association.

“Even last year, at the Aintree Grand National, me and Faith (girlfriend) both backed (winner) Nick Rockett, which I think was like 33-1.

“So that was the proper race to watch, but then going to Cheltenham this year was very good.

“It was at the start of the year when we were in Saudi, I think Michael Owen messaged Bunting and said: ‘Do you want to get involved?’

“I went, yeah, it’s worth a punt, worth a bit of money.

“I let Bunting have the name this time and hopefully this one does well, we can get another one with my name.”
