Londonofficecallin (22s - 40/1) was the surprise winner of Cork’s Horse And Jockey Hotel-sponsored Cork Derby today, scoring for trainer Gavin Cromwell, the In Bounds Syndicate and jockey Robert Whearty.

Pulled up on his previous start over hurdles at Cheltenham last November, the nine-year-old today notched a tenth career success and a first Premier Handicap success, when scoring a hard-fought half-length win from Immutable .

Syndicate-member Feidhlim Cunningham reported “that was a nice surprise as it was his first run back this season. He was drawn widest of all and we asked Robbie (Whearty) to go forward, so he said he took the longest route and was gutsy in the straight.

“It was actually a surprise he went through the ground and he wouldn’t want it any softer than that. We were going to run him over hurdles a couple of weeks ago but said we’d start off on the Flat instead.

“It is a big pot to win, that is his tenth win for us and he has gone up the grades which is always nice to do.”
