Long Road Back For Ferris

Jockey Martin Ferris has been on the side lines since smashing his wrist in a horrible incident at Tramore last October.

Ferris suffered eleven breaks and had a nerve severed in his wrist when his mount Wells China slipped up in a Novice Chase at the Co. Waterford track.

The rider had hoped to be back in the saddle this month but things haven't worked out that way.

"The ligaments didn't heal back to the thumb so I need more surgery," said Ferris.

"I am going for the operation in the first week in May and it will take another ten weeks of recovery after that."

"I hope to be back riding in August."

"I was disappointed until I heard what happened to Robbie McNamara and then spoke to Davy Condon about his injuries. It put everything into perspective."
