Loosen back on familiar ground

Loosen My Load who, along with Finger Onthe Pulse, flies the Irish flag in the Paddy Power Gold Cup this afternoon, has solid course form to take into the feature at Cheltenham and trainer Henry de Bromhead has a fantastic record when bringing challengers over to Prestbury Park.

Loosen My Load won a Grade Two novice hurdle at this meeting two years ago before finishing third behind Noble Prince and Wishfull Thinking in the Jewson in March.

"It's a highly competitive handicap chase and we'd just love a good run. He's on a nice weight. He definitely knows this place, so we'll give it a go and see how we get on," said de Bromhead.

Charlie Mann feels Fine Parchment is not without a chance, despite being 6lb out of the handicap, which the trainer has chosen to offset by using 5lb claimer Peter Carberry.

Mann said: "Fine Parchment is in great form. He ran a good race to finish second at Aintree when the ground was a little bit quick for him. He won at Cheltenham last season and he returns in great order - he goes there with a decent chance."

The trainer with the best recent record in the race is Nigel Twiston-Davies, who has won two of the last three renewals with Imperial Commander and Little Josh. This year he runs Billie Magern and Swincombe Rock, both considered outsiders by the bookies.

"Both have got good chances after running well on their first starts this season. I fancy their chances equally," said the Gloucestershire handler.

"They are 5lb (Billie Magern) and 4lb (Swincombe Rock) out of the handicap, which doesn't help, but both are in good form and relatively unexposed, having been novice chasers last season.

"The handicapper has not had a chance to quite get hold of second-season chasers - all our previous winners (Imperial Commander in 2008 and Tipping Tim in 1992 plus Little Josh last year) were in this category too.

"Billie Magern winning at Cheltenham last month was a very good dress rehearsal. He jumps very well, is very accurate and likes the course, while Swincombe Rock had some back problems last year but those are behind him now and I hope he will improve a lot for his first run."
