Lough Leane bags second win for Ahern Lough Leane (7/1) was the winner of Down Royal’s Children's Heartbeat Trust Apprentice Handicap over an extended mile and a quarter. A six-time winner on all-weather tracks when trained in Britain, the Cityscape gelding got off the mark in Ireland at Ballinrobe in May. Under a ground-saving ride from Adam Browne-Souza, the John O’Shaughnessy-owned six-year-old got a run through on the inner after rounding the elbow and led over a furlong out to beat Sweet Baby Zou by two and a half lengths. Winning trainer Maurice Ahern explained "He likes the nice ground. We were aiming him at Galway, and we said it would be a bit soft, and we went to Naas and it was too quick. He was just getting going over the stiff seven (furlongs) there and hit the line well. "It all depends on ground with him. "He'll do the winter in Dundalk now. That's why we kind of minded him last winter, with the idea of this winter." It was a sixth winner of the campaign for both trainer and jockey. Additional reporting by Michael Graham
