Lough now in line for Hennessy

Carlingford Lough could return to Leopardstown for the Hennessy Gold Cup on February 8 following his encouraging effort in the Lexus Chase over Christmas.

John Kiely's star performer made a belated reappearance in the three-mile feature after an eight-month absence, running well for a long way under Tony McCoy before having to settle for fifth place behind Road To Riches.

"He ran very well. We are all very pleased with him and if all goes well, he'll go straight for the Hennessy," said Frank Berry, racing manager to owner JP McManus.

"AP (McCoy) was delighted with him in the Lexus. He jumped great and hopefully he will come on a bit for the run. He will need to.

"We were all quite happy and he's come out of it good."
