Luckyman heading for Goodwood

Leo`s Luckyman, who earned rave reviews when making an impressive winning debut, could go for the Stg£50,000 Champagne Lanson Vintage Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, his trainer Mark Johnston revealed today.

The son of Woodman slammed Bit Of Luck by eight lengths at Ayr last month to earn a 25-1 quote for the Sagitta 2000 Guineas which Johnston won with Mister Baileys seven years ago.

'Leo`s Luckyman has done well since his Ayr run and the possibility is that he will go to Goodwood,' said Johnston, who won the Group Three seven-furlong event with Mister Baileys in 1993.

Johnston`s Gold Cup winner Royal Rebel is on target to repeat last year`s victory in the Goodwood Cup.

'He has come out of the Royal Ascot race well. He is in good form and the plan for him is to go for the Goodwood Cup,' said Johnston.

Yavana`s Pace, who made the running for Royal Rebel in the Gold Cup before fading to finish last of the finishers, returns to action in the Group One WGZ Bank Deutschland Preis at Dusseldorf on Sunday.

'It`s a Group One race. He`s in good form and I just hope he gets some soft ground there. He hasn`t had it yet this season,' Johnston said.

Joe Fanning will ride the nine-year-old in Germany.

The Middleham trainer also had news of the sidelined Fruits of Love, who is yet to race this season.

'He is cantering at the moment but he is still some way off a run,' he added.
