Lyric Of Light just gets up to win the Shadwell Godolphin's Lyric Of Light (2/1 favourite) won the Group One Shadwell Fillies' Mile under Frankie Dettori at Newmarket this afternoon. The Street Cry filly travelled ominously well throughout the contest but made hard work of reeling in the front-running Samitar (17-2) inside the final furlong. It looked for a moment that Mick Channon's filly might hold on but Dettori just got the better of Jamie Spencer in a tight finish. Firdaws (3-1) finished third. Dettori said: "She's a superstar of a filly and only does what she has to do. "She got very unbalanced coming down into the dip, but I managed to collar Jamie (Spencer) in the last 50 yards. "She's a very good filly. "I don't think the track would have suited her, on firm ground, she's such a tall filly. She's done well to win. "I had a good idea my head was in front, but you never know until the judge calls your number." Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford added: "Frankie felt she got a bit unbalanced, but she finished the race very well. "We'll have to talk to Sheikh Mohammed about whether she runs again this season, I suspect not, but there is always the Breeders' Cup to think about. "This race is always a good guide to next year's Guineas, even though the ground was a bit quicker than usual. We definitely see her as a Guineas horse. "She's got quite a speedy pedigree and it's quite hard to say whether she'd stay a mile and a half. That (the Oaks) is a long way away." Mick Channon was proud of the runner-up even though he thought she'd won! He said: "I'm really chuffed. She's been on the go all year and I thought she'd won so there must be something wrong with my eyes. "Our plan was to ride her a bit differently after her last run and it seemed to work." The only Irish trained runner in the field, Aidan O'Brien's 25/1 shot Devotion, finishined a disappointing sixth of the eight runners under Colm O'Donoghue.
