MONARCHOS TO BID FOR KENTUCKY CROWN

Monarchos established himself as a live Kentucky Derby contender when powering his way to victory in the Grade One Florida Derby on Saturday.

John Ward`s charge made it three wins on the bounce this term when beating Outofthebox by four and a half lengths in the Gulfstream Park contest.

Winning rider Jorge Chavez said: 'He has everything he needs to win the Kentucky Derby. I think he will be one of the contenders.'

Innuendo, winner of the 1999 Galtres Stakes for Luca Cumani, made short work of her rivals in the Grade Two Orchid Handicap on the same card.

Owned by Gerald Leigh and trained by Christophe Clement, the mare scored by three and a half lengths.
