MONSIGNOR OUT FOR SEASON

Top-class prospect Monsignor has been ruled out of racing action for the remainder of the season, it was reported today.

The Mark Pitman-trained gelding had been due to stay over hurdles this season after having his seasonal debut delayed because of a minor leg problem.

However, owner Malcolm Denmark told the Racing Channel today: 'We have been very cautious with him but we have seen this year with the likes of Barton that these horses can come back after a long lay-off.

'The plan is now to get him back early next year and start him off winning a good few novice chases.'

Monsignor was unbeaten in six starts over timber last season, including the Royal & SunAlliance Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March.
