MORAL HELD BACK BY WEATHER

Cold weather looks set to deny leading Martell Grand National hope Moral Support his intended outing at Uttoxeter next Saturday.

Frost has hit Charlie Mann`s Lambourn yard and hindered the trainer`s efforts to prepare his rising star.

So the gelding, runner-up in the Coral Welsh National at Chepstow last month, is set to bypass the Singer & Friedlander National Trial at Uttoxeter.

'He is jumping out of his skin and I couldn`t be more pleased with him but he has missed a couple of bits of work and I don`t think he will be quite ready,' Mann said.

'We had frost yesterday and he couldn`t get on to the grass so he is a bit behind.

'He will probably go to Newbury a week later for an ordinary novice chase as I want to give one run before the De Vere Gold Cup at Haydock.'

Moral Support had won all his four races for Mann prior to the Welsh National, including the John Hughes Chase at Chepstow, and is quoted at 25-1 for Aintree by William Hill.

He is also in the Tote Gold Cup and Royal & SunAlliance Chase at Cheltenham and Mann said: 'His main aim is the National but he has been going very well and if it came up soft he might go to Cheltenham but we will have to see.'
