MOSS IS A GALANT WINNER

Galant Moss got his jumping act together to storm to a runaway victory in the mud at Ascot today.

The 7-2 shot took over from the front-running Shooting Light at the second last and stretched clear under Tony McCoy to defeat that rival by 19 lengths in the Mitie Group Novices` Chase over an extended two miles and three furlongs.

The testing conditions took their toll with the favourite Rugged River among those who failed to complete the course.

Galant Moss had been well-beaten by Crocadee at Haydock Park on his last outing.

'He was just a little bit disappointing his last two runs and I`m not sure why,' said trainer Martin Pipe. 'But he was a decent hurdler and he deserves to win a decent race over fences.

'He jumped well and stayed well and I`m sure he`ll be better when he goes over further.'

The Royal & SunAlliance Chase is a possible Cheltenham Festival target but Galant Moss could switch to a handicap depending on how he is treated by the assessor.
