Magnetic North enjoyed himself in the opening claimer at Limerick as he drew four and a-half lengths clear of his rivals.

Adam Caffrey bounced the 9/4 favourite out to lead over this extended mile and three trip and entering the straight he was still going strongly.

The eight-year-old gelding skipped clear on the run to the final furlong and kept up the gallop to win decisively. Bringsty kept on for second at 5/2 and was a length and a-quarter clear of third-placed Danza Della Luna (7/1).

This was Magnetic North's seventh career success. On his penultimate outing, he landed an apprentice handicap at Leopardstown in May also with Caffrey in the plate.

Trainer Ado McGuinness said: "He is rock solid, has won plenty for us and the Dooley lads who own him have plenty of premier handicap horses. They have got great fun out of him and he is in at a claimable price.

"If he is claimed he is claimed, and I won't cry on the way home but we have had great fun and he is well handicapped over hurdles for someone who wants to go hurdling. The ground went soft the last day he ran over hurdles and he wasn't right."

Magnetic North was claimed by P Sweeney for €10,000 to be trained by Dick Donohue. Fifth-placed Sandyman was claimed by owner/trainer James McAuley for €8,000.
