Maguire to try for the thousand Adrian Maguire was left frustrated at Exeter after a winner-less afternoon left him still two short of 1,000 career victories. The Irishman is on the verge of becoming only the seventh National Hunt rider in history to reach the landmark figure and will try again at Huntingdon today where he has five booked rides. Richard Dunwoody, Peter Scudamore, Tony McCoy, John Francome, Stan Mellor and Peter Niven are the only other jump jockeys to make it to four figures. And it was also not a happy day for connections of Keltic Heritage, who were incensed when the gelding was not awarded the Doubleprint Novices` Handicap Hurdle in the stewards` room. The Luke Dace-trained grey was prominent throughout the two-mile-six-furlong contest but was pressed by Boring Goring on the level as the pair drew clear. Halfway up the run-in Boring Goring dived dramatically to his left cannoning into Keltic Heritage, knocking Dace`s 5-1 chance sideways. After being straightened up by Mattie Batchelor, Boring Goring ran on to hold his rival at bay by one and a quarter lengths. A stewards` inquiry was quickly announced but after a short deliberation the result was confirmed. The officials found that Boring Goring had interfered with Keltic Heritage, the mount of 7lb claimer Colin Bolger, on the run-in. But they considered the interference was accidental and had not improved Boring Goring`s placing. Dace was upset at the outcome of the inquiry. He said: 'I think it was terrible. I think it was the worst decision ever made. My owner has lost a lot of money - he`s backed the horse to win. 'At the moment I am trying to appeal because I think I`ve got every right to appeal. 'At the end of the day I wasn`t in the race to keep his horse straight. If I had been on the other side of him he would have ended up in the stables washing his horse down and I`d have gone and won.'
