Malina Girl is set to go on her travels again this weekend with the Listed Mares Chase at Exeter on Sunday on her agenda.

Gavin Cromwell's charge has already landed one big pot this term, with an impressive success in the Jewson Handicap Chase at Cheltenham in November.

She was a faller when moving into contention back at Prestbury Park the following month before a slightly disappointing effort at Warwick in a £100,000 contest last month.

Cromwell feels carrying a big weight over a marathon trip may have taken it's toll last time and is hoping for a better showing on Sunday, in the three-mile TrustATrader Mares Chase..

“The plan is to go. It's not a bad race but she's entitled to go and we'll give it a shot,” said the Danestown handler.

“I think basically she just had too much weight over that trip last time, giving away weight to horses.

“She's only handy, I know she's going to have to carry plenty of weight at the weekend but at least it's off level weights, in mares only company as well.”
