Many Clouds could run in next year's National Oliver Sherwood is keen to give Many Clouds a third outing in the Grand National next season in a bid to regain his crown should connections be in favour of such a plan. The 2015 winner of the Aintree showpiece finished a virtually pulled-up last of the 16 runners to complete this year's renewal, in his bid to become the first horse since Red Rum to register back-to-back wins in the world's greatest steeplechase. After confirming the nine-year-old would not run again this season, the Upper Lambourn handler also revealed the Trevor Hemmings-owned gelding would undergo a wind operation after reporting him to have made a noise during the race. Sherwood said: "I've not spoken to my staff this morning, but I had a text from my head girl at 11.30pm last night to say that he got home fine and that he went straight into his grub. "I told people that he is going to have a wind operation as he made a noise, what operation I don't know yet. He won't run again this season. "I've not had a chance to talk things through with connections yet and it is too early to set targets, but god willing I would like to come back next year. "He travelled and jumped so well and five or six out I was getting excited. I don't think it was the weight that was a problem and I am 99.9 per cent certain it was his breathing. "He would not mind that ground, just on that ground it tests out the breathing much more than on good ground. "Leighton (Aspell) said he gave him a great thrill and he felt just as good for the first circuit as he did last year. I am still very proud of him."
