Peter Chapple-Hyam is likely to step up in trip with his 2000 Guineas flop Marcel.

The Racing Post Trophy winner finished an extremely disappointing last of 13 in the Classic, with fellow strong fancies Air Force Blue and Stormy Antarctic just in front of him.

Chapple-Hyam always felt his charge would need further than a mile and he feels that display proved his point.

"He's having a bit of time off to just try to freshen him up and we'll see where he goes from here," he told At The Races.

"We moved him out to the National Stud to give him a bit of a holiday. We'll see what Mr Makin (owner) wants to do and make a plan from there.

"His Guineas run was a total shock, but then when I looked at the time it was one of the fastest Guineas for 30 years, two seconds faster than Frankel, although he won in a hack canter. They maybe took him out of his comfort zone.

"They could have gone too quick for him as it was five seconds quicker than the Racing Post Trophy.

"We always knew that he wanted further and we might have learned our lesson there."
