Mare Crisium brings up Clonmel double for Shane Foley Having won the opening race on the card, jockey Shane Foley recorded a double when partnering the Ken Condon trained Mare Crisium to land the Suir Blueway Handicap at Clonmel. Despite a wide draw, the daughter of Sea The Moon broke well and soon had the box seat just in behind the front two. Pushed along on the inner early in the home straight, the 9/2cf came through to press Ochtar Again over a furlong from the finish. Getting to the front with less than 150 yards to race, Mare Crisium stayed on strongly to score by three-quarters-of-a-length. Ken Condon said: "she is well-bred and we trained her sister (Queen Of Thunder), who was unlucky to be narrowly beaten in a Group 3, so it is important to get a winning bracket today. "Obviously when you buy them, you hope they'll be better but she has found her level and has shown consistency in her last few runs. She was one of a few who were fancied today, and got her turn. "She has plenty size and scope, will stay in training next year and will probably run once more this year. She handles most grounds, except extremes and is effective from 1m2f to 1m4f. I think she'll improve next season." He added "Shane (Foley) had to wait for the gap to open but he was never afraid to go up anyone's inside!
