Marnane’s Manton Bay books Cambridgeshire ticket Three-year-old Manton Bay (9/4 — 13/8f) gained a timely second success today in Killarney’s CSG Rated Race, ahead of either a possible sale or tilt at the Irish Cambridgeshire in eight days. Ridden by Luke McAteer, the son of Ulysees raced in rear and having improved to dispute the lead a furlong out, held on well to score by a half-length win from Totally Puzzled . David Marnane trains the winner for his own MRC International syndicate, and reported “I’m tried of him finishing second but he is a very, very good horse who is a little bit idle. Luke just said he coasted up to go and win well today, but felt he had enough done. He isn’t in any way rogueish though. “I left him in the Cambridgeshire (€100,000, Tote-sponsored) for next week and while we’ll mull it over, I’d say he will probably run. There has been a few offers in for him from Hong Kong so we’ll see what happens, but at the moment the plan is the Cambridgeshire.”
