Martin holds strong hand in Cesarewitch Handicap specialist Tony Martin sets a poser for punters by saddling three serious contenders in Quick Jack, Heartbreak City and Cassells Rock for the Betfred Cesarewitch at Newmarket on Saturday. Quick Jack catches the eye on his close third in this race last year, and Martin, who sent out Leg Spinner to triumph in 2007, has booked Ryan Moore for the ride. The six-year-old has been campaigned sparingly since his effort 12 months ago and has been switching codes. Third in the County Hurdle at Cheltenham, he was second in the Chester Cup and then won the Galway Hurdle before running a rare bad race when well-beaten in the Betfred Ebor last time out. Martin feels Quick Jack can put that effort behind him. "He was disappointing the last day. Every horse is allowed a middling run. He seems in good form and we're hoping for a good run," said the Co Meath handler. "He ran a blinder last year." In contrast, Heartbreak City won an extended two-mile handicap at that York meeting in August. "He's a horse that won well at York and did it nicely," said Martin. "He showed us what he can do at York and fingers crossed he'll give a good account of himself as well." Cassells Rock is the biggest price of the three after blotting his copybook in the Cesarewitch Trial over the course and distance, when sent off the 7-2 favourite. However, Martin feels the horse had a legitimate excuse. "He was disappointing, but got a bump when he came out of the stall. He ran very free and got lit up," he said. "You have to put a line through that. We'll excuse him that. Hopefully it will go better this time and he'll give a good account of himself." Backing up Martin's team are Willie Mullins, who looks to the Rich Ricci-owned Renneti, while Gordon Elliott reports his runner Bayan to be up for the challenge. "It looks a competitive race, but he's in good form and we're looking forward to the run," said the Co Meath trainer.
