Matron target for Never Michael O'Callaghan reports two of his stable stars, Blue De Vega and Now Or Never, to be having a break following their recent exertions at Royal Ascot. The Curragh trainer has the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown in mind for his Group Three winner Now Or Never. She has shown herself to be one of the top fillies of her generation, winning a Classic trial, finishing third in the Irish 1,000 Guineas and fourth in the Coronation Stakes behind Qemah at the Royal meeting. Blue De Vega could only finish seventh to Hawkbill in the Tercentenary Stakes but the winner gave the form a massive boost by winning the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown. "Blue De Vega is on a bit of a mid-summer break at the moment as is Now Or Never," said O'Callaghan. "Now Or Never will be aimed at the Matron Stakes. The stiff mile and soft ground just tested her stamina at Ascot, and hopefully the ground will be a bit better at Leopardstown. "Blue De Vega stumbled a few times at Ascot and would also like some better ground."
