Maxwell on the mend

Luckless jump jockey Conor Maxwell is aiming to be back in action for the week before Galway, having been in recovery for some months since suffering a serious fall from Coliseum in a handicap hurdle at Punchestown on May 18.

Speaking yesterday, Maxwell’s agent Niall Cronin stated “Conor fractured four fractured vertebrae, his T2, T3, T6 and T11, in his fall at Punchestown and has been in a brace since.”

“I was only talking to him yesterday and he was just after coming back a holiday in Marbella. His movement was obviously restricted but as he said, it’s better to be sitting down over there than over here!”

“He will undergo weeks of physiotherapy before coming back but is hoping to be back before Galway.”

Maxwell, who missed most of last season but managed to ride five winners, had previously fractured his right wrist and left arm after Christmas, having only been back six months from a previous injury.
