Well-backed Amina (5/2 — 6/4f) gained a deserved first success today, landing Ballinrobe's Paddy Smyth Memorial Mares Maiden Hurdle for trainer John McConnell, jockey Alex Harvey and owners Pimlico Racing Amina & Munster Van Centre.

Previously placed on four of five career starts, Amina today raced prominently and while she bumped eventual runner-up Ronnie's Rascal rounding the final turn, resulting in a subsequent stewards' enquiry, held on to score by 2.25 lengths.

Trainer McConnell said “even though that's beautiful ground, I didn't really want to run her on good, because she wants three miles on slower ground, but there weren't that many opportunities coming up.

"She has a big frame and isn't fully furnished yet. Alex said she wasn't doing a tap in front.

"The owners have been very patient and it's nice to get her head in front. She had good bumper form, and there should be more to come from her."
