McCoy voted Sportsman of the Year

Jockey Tony McCoy was yesterday voted Sportsman of the Year, by 700-plus sports journalists, providing a positive omen for success in the upcoming BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.

McCoy had, in 2002, finished second to Lennox Lewis in the SJA's major honour but McCoy yesterday became the first jockey to win in the 62 year history of the award.

Britain's perennial Champion Jump Jockey is currently odds-on to be voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
