Willie McCreery has returned to his roots in recent weeks and bridged a gap of nine years when saddling a couple of hurdle winners with Party Dress and Coul Dreamer.

McCreery was brought up in the jumping game being the son of Peter McCreery who trained dual Champion Chase winner Hilly Way and also enjoyed big race success with the likes of Daring Run and Seskin Bridge.

“I remember on my 16th birthday I got to school Hilly Way as a birthday present. I was born and bred with them and I love them," said the Curragh trainer who has enjoyed Group 1 success on the Flat.

Coul Dreamer made all to score in good style at Punchestown last month before finishing fourth in a Grade 3 at Fairyhouse last weekend.

"Coul Dreamer is a beautiful horse. He is 16.2hh and when he gets stronger, he will be a top horse,” said McCreery.

"He just didn't jump well the other day and after the race he had a little stone bruise. That is the reason why he was jumping to the left."

Party Dress is owned in partnership by McCreery’s wife Amanda and showed the benefit of a couple of runs over hurdles to score at Thurles last time.

"There's a couple of Listed races I might go for with Party Dress because the two ladies that own her - Susan Archdeacon, who is a very good friend of Amanda’s, and they were in the National Stud together a long time ago - are probably going to breed from her.

"It would be great if we could get a bit of black type for her. We might have to travel with her and I’m sure they would like a weekend away especially in France! We will have a look."
