McEvoy Thrilled With Classy Khaldun Kerrin McEvoy was delighted his trek from Australia paid dividends when Ibn Khaldun flew up the Doncaster straight to win the Racing Post Trophy.Godolphin's colt was landing a four-timer in the process of slamming City Leader by an easy three lengths on Town Moor, earning quotes as low as 8-1 for next season's 2000 Guineas. And with Frankie Dettori riding in the Breeders' Cup, the stage was set for McEvoy to shine having jetted back to England from his native country.'I was really happy with him, especially after travelling all the way back from Australia,' McEvoy said.'He's just a really progressive little horse. It's the first time I've ridden him in a race but I'd ridden him a couple of times at home and he'd improved from his Ascot race again.'I thought he'd have a great chance. It was obviously a bit of a stiffer task on the formbook but all the indications had been that he'd improved so I was delighted to be able to come back and ride him.'That was my first Group One winner of the season so it was a good way to end things.'McEvoy unsurprisingly holds the son of Dubai Destination in high regard and believes it will be difficult for the Godolphin team to formulate a pecking order ahead of next season's early Classics.'I haven't ridden Rio De La Plata this season but out of this season's two-year-old's I've ridden he's definitely on top, and it'll be interesting to see how far he'll stay next year,' McEvoy said.'I'm under the impression that he has such a relaxed attitude it could see him stay a mile and a quarter.'Hopefully he'll have a good winter and keep improving and it could be a very interesting choice for Frankie to make between the colts in the Guineas next season.'We've also got Fast Company and Rio de la Plata with this fellow, and even a colt like Iguazu Falls could go and improve over the winter.'Stan James sponsor the 2000 Guineas and make Fast Company a 7-1 chance, with Ibn Khaldun and Rio De La Plata at 10s and 12s respectively.(C) PA Sport
