McKiernan hoping Whatuthink takes to Aintree

Oliver McKiernan is unsure what to expect as Whatuthink prepares to tackle Aintree's giant fences for the first time in the totesport.com Becher Chase.

The eight-year-old grabbed third in the Irish Grand National in the spring and was second on his seasonal reappearance at Clonmel at the end of October.

The trainer has been pleased with his charge since but is unsure of his chance given he has never tackled anything like the obstacles he will face on Sunday.

"We don't know how he'll take to the fences and we're going into a bit of unknown territory," said McKiernan.

"We know the fences take a lot of jumping but if we don't try we'll never know.

"The horse has been in good form since Clonmel and he ran OK that day for his first run back.

"With the ground testing it's going to take some serious getting but we have to start somewhere."
