Review BALLINROBE 17TH MAY

Arellano advertised the training skills of Jim Bolger when completing a hat-trick in the space of just over a fortnight by landing the #20,000 Lake District Handicap at Ballinrobe yesterday.

The Erins Isle gelding needed a strong ride from Kevin Manning in this nine furlong event, keeping on gamely under pressure in the straight to deny Sarraaf by half a length.

Edward Lynam is eyeing up another crack at the #100,000 Goffs Challenge at the Curragh next month after Yanni showed plenty of speed to take the EBF Maiden.

The Pennekamp juvenile stayed on well to beat Golden Glow by a length and a half, and Lynam commented: 'She did it well, and will now go for the Goffs Challenge', a race the Dunshaughlin handler won for the third time last year with Berlin.

Michael Grassick got off the mark for the season when the Eddie Ahern-ridden Mar Blue was driven out in the straight to beat Nonchalant by half a length in the Mayo Vintners Association Maiden.

Gallant Glen was dropped in trip to great effect when making all under Jason Titley for a runaway success in the two miles and a furlong Flannerys Bar & Restaurant Handicap Chase. The former hunter chaser cruised clear after two out to beat Empor Star by an effortless six lengths.
