Review CLONMEL 5TH APR

Popular Demand's stylish win was the highlight of a double for Denis O'Regan at Clonmel.

James Motherway's charge ran out a cosy two-length winner of the Comeragh Handicap Hurdle under a confident ride.

The Bob Back gelding travelled sweetly behind the leaders into the straight before edging into the lead before the last and quickened smartly on the run-in to score from Black Dot.

'He has been very free all season so the key was to get him to relax, switch off and come nice and late. The ground was also a help,' said Motherway.

'After his second run he was balloted 10 times and we had no option but to run him in bottomless ground at Gowran Park last time. It came right today and we'll look for something similar for him.'

O'Regan had to work harder earlier when Running Wild clung on desperately in the dying strides to make all in the first division of the EBF Maiden Hurdle.

Councillor Jack threw down a late challenge but was denied by the narrowest of margins by Noel Meade charge.

There was a thrilling finish to the second division with three jumping the second last upsides.

Becolark gained a narrow advantage before the final flight and stayed on strongly to record a two-and-a-half length margin over Sulla.

'That was serious pressure because he belongs to all the in-laws! He could go for the final of the opportunity series at Punchestown on the Saturday,' said trainer Jessica Harrington.

The Galway Plate could be on the agenda for Sir Frederick after an impressive success in the Powerstown Chase.

Davy Rusell produced the gelding to lead into the straight and he galloped on strongly to score by three-and-a-half lengths from Arc En Ciel.

'Davy was adamant that he wanted that ground. He has been disappointing all year and is not able for the real heavy ground,' said trainer Liam Burke.

'I'll fiddle away with him till the end of May and he could have a few weeks off in June. We could consider the Galway Plate if it is reasonable ground.'

16/1 shot Add Wings made most of getting in as first reserve in the opening Fethard Maiden Hurdle.

Liam Roche's charge finished well under a strong drive from David Casey to wear down front-runner Belord close home for a half-length victory.

'We bought her at the sales before Christmas out of Eddie Lynam's. She's a nice filly with plenty of toe,' said Roche. 'We'll probably go a novice with her and I think a good bit of her.'

Baily Breeze produced a fine front-running performance to claim the Ballypatrick Handicap Hurdle while Mullica Lad edged a terrific duel from Doc Charlie in the concluding Lisronagh Handicap Chase.
