Review CORK 10TH AUG

Pat Cosgrave is just two behind Davy Condon in the apprentice title race after partnering a 30.5/1 double to move onto the 16 winner mark for the season.

Tigim, demoted for interference after finishing first past the post at Tipperary in June, gained a deserved winning bracket on his 22nd start in the five furlongs handicap. Peter Henley's charge and Indian Desert had the race between them on the stands rail from the furlong pole, and Cosgrave's strength proved decisive to score by a head. 'I wasn't concerned about coming back to five furlongs, and today was the day,' said trainer Peter Henley.

Cosgrave followed up half-an-hour later in the ten furlongs handicap aboard In Theory. Ger Lyons' charge headed Quest For Peace over a furlong out to beat that rival by two lengths. All Square (14th) was disqualified for weighing in 15lb light after losing the saddle cloth.

Dermot Weld's National Hunt team did him proud when completing a short-priced double in the opening two hurdle races with Mutakarrim and Wimbledon. Mutakarrim, well-supported from 4/9 to 1/3, readily landed the odds in the two and a half miles hurdle, jumping to the front three out under Barry Geraghty and quickly stretching clear for a four lengths verdict over Fiddlers Bar.

Wimbledon headed the front-running Send Him On early in the straight of the two miles maiden hurdle, and kept on strongly for David Evans to score by three-and-a-half lengths.

Take A Drop landed the other hurdle race on the card, two and three-quarter miles handicap, leading at the last under Ruby Walsh and driven out to beat Minella Captain by a length and a half.

Elizabeth Sheehan, 20, had a day to remember at her local track when partnering her first winner on Bid Me Quick in the two-year-old auction race. The Con Collins-trained youngster held off Mrs St George by a neck in an exciting finish.

Bridgewater Inn (Denis Cullen) just held on by a neck in the bumper from El Corredor, whose rider Pa Murphy was given a two days suspension for using his whip with excessive force and frequency.
