Review CORK 8TH SEP

Austrian vet Irene Kohlweiss extended her lead at the head of the Lady Riders Figentri Series following her win on board John Kiely's Clara Allen in the Kilentra Figentri Ladies Handicap at Cork today.

A vet in small animal practise, the Vienna based 36 year old had little trouble recording her 32nd career win on Clara Allen, who stretched six lengths clear once she got to the front over one furlong out.

Afterwards trainer John Kiely nominated the Cesarewitch Handicap at The Curragh as Clara Allen's next race.

Most valuable event on the card, the Glantane Hurdle, was reduced to three runners, with Always (withdrawn for failing to start) and Loyal Focus (lame) both non-runners.

The E16,000 eventually went to Red Square Lady, under Andrew McNamara, who made all but needed to battle went challenged by Anxious Moments at the final flight, for her length success.

Afterwards winning trainer Michael Phillips reported 'she did that well as she is not a natural front runner.'

He added 'she deserved the win but won't run again this year if the ground turns soft. She'll go chasing next year.'

Michael Grassick's Liscune was the well supported 100/30 winning favourite of the Cork Rated Race.

Ridden by Niall McCullagh, Liscune tracked the leaders before making progress to challenge for the lead inside the final furlong for a neck win over Marias Dream.

Afterwards, Grassick reported 'the conditions suited her although the trip was a slight worry.'

He added 'she is a big raw filly and maybe kept in training next year, although the longterm plan is to go to stud with her.'

Tom Foley's Kilcarrig House ran out the four length winner of the Banks Of The Lee Handicap Hurdle, under John Allen.

The son of Mandalus tracked leader Threequarter Moon before moving through to lead when the leader blundered the third last. Kilcarrig House was soon clear and recorded a four length win, from Shaalayn.

Foley later reported 'he fractured his pelvis some time ago but is handicapped over fences. His next runs depends on what the handicapper does.'

The opening Mallow Handicap went to Peter Casey's Nok Twice.

Davy Condon's mount was held up in mid division before making stylish progress in the straight, eventually getting to the front inside the final furlong for a half length win over Itsonlywoody.
