Review CURRAGH 9TH JUN

Fracas appreciated the drop back to Listed company when making all in the featured Gallo Family Vineyards Silver Stakes at headquarters.

Wayne Lordan's mount made all in the ten furlongs event, and he kept on well inside the final quarter mile to hold the challenge of Trinity College by two lengths.

'He deserved a win as he's been running well behind good horses. We will keep him to Listed and Group 3 races from ten furlongs to a mile and a half, and 10f is probably his best trip,' said trainer David Wachman.

Johnny Murtagh moved onto the 16 winner mark for the season when partnering a 96/1 double in the opening two races aboard Ms Victoria and Bruges.

The step back to six furlongs did the trick for Ms Victoria as the daughter of Fasliyev quickened up nicely inside the final furlong to beat the staying on Radical Rave by 2 1/2L.

'It was my fault last time at Naas as she didn't get a mile, and that trip seems to really suit,' said trainer Mick Halford.

He added, 'She's a big filly with loads of scope and there should be more improvement in her. We will try and get a bit of black type in time.'

Murtagh followed up when the David Myerscough-trained Bruges made a successful debut in the six furlongs juvenile maiden.

The home-bred Marju colt came home strongly, heading the always prominent Norman Invader in the closing stages to score by half a length.

'It's nice to get off the mark with my two-year-olds and he may go now for the Golden Fleece Stakes (Listed) at Leopardstown next month,' said Myerscough, who rents out a yard from Murtagh on the Curragh.

Ballinrobe based Michael Flannery saddled his second winner inside the past fortnight when Calm Lad overcame traffic problems for a last gasp victory under Billy Lee.

'The owner has been very patient as this horse spent nearly three years in a field after breaking his jaw, and Ned Gowing has done a great job on him.'

'He's now had three runs in just over two weeks so we'll probably give him a little break,' said a delighted Flannery, who has ten in training.

Patrick Prendergast ended a frustrating spell this season when Tis Mighty took the valuable fillies mile handicap under Niall McCullagh.

The heavily backed 9/2 chance (from 7/1) was driven clear inside the final furlong to beat Navajo Moon by two lengths.

'My horses have been under the weather and I really needed that. She's a nice filly and could run again at Leopardstown next Wednesday,' said the local trainer.

Fran Berry earned plenty of plaudits from trainer Harry Rogers after partnering his 21st winner of the season on the fast-finishing Araschan in the ten furlongs handicap.

Common Venture looked sure to score when bursting through between horses inside the final furlong but Berry timed his run to perfection on the stands side to get Araschan up in the final strides.

'He has to be dropped out and switched off as he runs too free, and Fran knows him well. He was bought for a bit of fun and has repaid the syndicate now,' said the Ardee handler.

Muluk (Declan McDonogh) was another to benefit from a well-timed late challenge when sweeping past Akua'Ba to score by 1/2L in the 1m maiden.
