Review CURRAGH 22ND OCT

Tajneed showed his rivals a clean pair of heels to claim the Joe McGrath EBF Handicap at the Curragh on Sunday.

Dermot Weld's charge was soon in the lead and kicked clear over two furlongs out in the 62,500 event.

Rockie stayed on strongly from the back to throw down a late challenge but Shane Gorey kept the Hamdan Al Maktoum-owned colt going to score by three-parts-of-a-length.

Weld was full of praise for the stable apprentice afterwards: 'He got the stand side draw and the plan was executed perfectly by the jockey. Shane has been riding well all season. He is going to spend the winter in America and Australia.'

'This horse stays and seven is probably his right trip. He's in the sales at Newmarket on Wednesday.'

Boca Dancer revelled in the conditions when running out a comfortable winner of the Lanwades & Staffordstown Studs Silken Glider Stakes.

Declan McDonogh sent the Indian Ridge filly to the lead over a furlong out and she pulled away from her rivals to record a three-and-a-half length victory in the Listed event.

'She's a smart filly and likes that ground,' said winning trainer Kevin Prendergast.

'She is out of a Sadler's Wells mare so is bred on both sides to go on the ground. She stayed well and could get another couple of furlongs.'

Hardy Eustace finished sixth on his return to action in the Carmel Keatley Memorial Handicap as Lounaos ran out a convincing winner.

Johnny Murtagh sent the Eoin Griffin-trained filly into the lead a furlong-and-a-half out for a three-length victory.

Dessie Hughes was pleased with the return of his stable star: 'He didn't blow up and didn't blow much when he came in. They didn't go a normal gallop because of the ground and quickened away from him. He stayed on well.

'He'll go for the Lismullen Hurdle at Navan (November 12th) and if everything works out well we would be very tempted by the new Bula Hurdle (Boylesports.com International at Cheltenham on December 9th).'

Mount Nelson looked another top-class prospect for Ballydoyle when running out an impressive winner of the Charlie Keatley Memorial EBF Maiden.

Seamus Heffernan was always prominent on the son of Rock Gibraltar and he hit the lead over two furlongs out, stretching clear for a six-length verdict.

'He's a horse to look forward to next year,' said trainer Aidan O'Brien. 'He's entered in the France next weekend but it's possible that could be him for the year.'

English import Deputy Consort made a winning debut on Irish soil when taking the Peter Keatley Curragh Equine Groundcare Maiden.

Pat Smullen always had Bermeco prominent in the opening Median Auction Maiden and went on two-and-a-half furlongs out to score by a length-and-a-half.
