Review CURRAGH 23RD OCT

Jioconda produced a gutsy front-running performance to lead home a one-two for owner Lady O'Reilly in the Gerrardstown House Stud Silken Glider Stakes at the Curragh.

The Eddie Lynam-trained filly dictated matters from the front in the Listed contest, under Johnny Murtagh, and stayed on stoutly inside the final furlong to score by two-and-a-half lengths.

Million Waves, carrying the same colours, finished well from the back to grab second for Kevin Prendergast and Declan McDonogh.

Jamie Spencer, who is set to be crowned Champion Jockey in England, had a good trip back home, partnering a treble courtesy of Alone He Stands, Caribbean and Eklim.

Spencer was seen at his strongest when producing Alone He Stands on the outside to claim the Irish Pride Joe McGrath EBF Handicap by half a length from Sanfrancullinan.

There was also a terrific finish to the Irish Pride Big Toast EBF Maiden with the John Oxx-trained Caribbean coming with a late rattle to collar River Tiber close home for a narrow success.

Eklim completed the treble in great style when sprinting clear inside the final furlong to land the Irish Pride Rustic Grain Race by five lengths from Sky High Flyer.

There was a international flavour to the meeting thanks to the Derrinstown Stud European Association of Racing Schools Handicap which saw jockeys compete from Ireland, Britain, France and Italy.

Donna Caldwell claimed the victory for Britain when giving Miss Una a strong ride to get the better of Twogoodreasons by three-and-a-half lengths, after hitting the front a furlong out.

David Wachman's Sensasse showed the benefit of her debut run at Naas last weekend when running out an impressive winner of the opening Irish Pride Healthy Grain Median Auction Maiden.

Wayne Lordan sent the filly to the lead a furlong out and she pulled right away in the closing stages to beat C'est La Classe by three-and-a-half lengths.

For Starters was produced with a perfectly timed run under Rory Cleary to land the Irish Pride Bunster Bun Maiden for Michael O'Brien.

Michael Hourigan had a good day at Clonmel, recording a double courtesy of A New Story and Church Island.

A New Story (4/1 to 5/2f) was well-backed in the Templetuohy Handicap Hurdle and was given a confident ride by Andrew McNamara to record a comfortable three-parts of a lengths victory over Cooper's Rose.

Church Island also had it easy, under Denis O'Regan, as he recorded a hat-trick over fences in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Captain Christy Novice Chase.
