Review FAIRYHOUSE 18TH MAY

Eddie Lynam and Cathy Gannon had mixed fortunes on this all Flat evening meeting, successfully teaming up to land the opener with Key Rose but later losing out on a double in the stewards room.

Key Rose was sent off the well-backed 4/6 favourite for the six furlongs juvenile auction maiden, and the Key Of Luck filly was prominent throughout to beat Steig by three quarters of a length.

'It's a relief to win when they are as short a price as that but she did it well. The weights were very much in our favour, and we'll try to get her some black type,' said Lynam of Lady O'Reilly's filly.

Lady O'Reilly's familiar black and white colours were again very much to the fore in the 3yo auction maiden when her pair All Flash and Tamara Gervasoni fought out the finish.

Gannon's mount All Flash dived left and collided with Tamara Gervasoni (Michael Hussey) just inside the final 1/4m.

A short-head separated the pair at the line, and few were surprised when the placings were reversed after an enquiry. The stewards however judged that the interference was accidental and took no further action.

Back To Paris, available at 14/1 in the morning and backed from 10/1 to 5/1 on the course, landed a tidy gamble under Kevin Manning in the nine furlongs handicap for 3yos.

The Jim Bolger-trained gelding got on top in the final 100 yards to beat Key Mountain by 1 1/2L, and could bid for a quick follow up at the Curragh this weekend.

Fran Berry was fortunate to escape injury when unseated from Pennyforurthoughts soon after the start of this race but he bounced back by taking the fillies 12f maiden on Whoneedswings.

Michael Halford's charge led approaching the straight, and stayed on well to beat Great Quest by three quarters of a length.

'She loved the ground and trip and there should be plenty of improvement in her. I hope she'll make up into Listed class,' said the Curragh trainer.

Flashy Beau (6/4f) had little difficulty defying a 5lb penalty for his win at Roscommon on Monday when taking the amateur riders handicap, part of the Fegentri International Series.

Local trainer Ger Lyons and Nina Carberry added to their impressive strike rate as the 5yo quickly settled the issue over a furlong out and was eased right down to beat Tout Les Tables by 3/4L.

The market also got it right in the 9f winners race where Premier Dane (5/4-4/5f) swept to the front well over a furlong out under Chris Hayes to beat Mary From Murroe by an easy four lengths.

The 36-60 rated seven furlongs handicap looked something of a minefield for punters, although the maximum line-up of 18 runners produced an exciting finish.

Pretty Posh attracted support from 16/1 down to 10/1 but the 'money' just came up short as the Pat Smullen-ridden Stone Arch held her off by a short-head.
