Review KILBEGGAN 19TH AUG

Emeranna produced a remarkable performance in the Pat Doyle Memorial Mares Novice Hurdle at Kilbeggan as she gave her field a head start and a comprehensive beating.

Kieran Purcell's mare was reluctant to jump off under Johnny Allen but worked her way into contention in the 2m3f event and cruised through before the second last to claim an easy six-length victory.

'It's only of late she has been getting like that,' said winning owner/trainer Purcell 'She was in season at Tramore last time. She has unreal ability and we may go back on the Flat.'

The Noel Meade-trained Duneden made an impressive chasing debut in the Hackett's Bookmakers Beginners Chase.

Paul Carberry sent his mount into the lead after the second last and had things in control before final fence. He could afford to ease up close home to beat Andy Higgins by eight lengths.

'The trip was a big help to him, he has been struggling a bit over hurdles because of a lack of speed. He likes fast ground and will carry on until the ground changes,' said Meade.

An Buachaill showed great determination to fight back and deny Possible Gale in the www.kilbegganraces.com Handicap Hurdle.

Possible Gale looked set for victory when hitting the front two out but Barry Geraghty refused to give up on An Buachaill and the Eric McNamara-trained gelding responded gamely to get up again on the run-in for a length verdict.

'He won a point-to-point earlier this year and the plan is to go chasing sooner rather than later,' said McNamara.

Chasing is also on the cards for Blackhall Claw, who proved a rather fortunate winner of the D&E McHugh New Holland Maiden Hurdle.

Sean Treacy's gelding looked held before 11/8f Result fell at the second last, but fought gamely to repel the challenge of Jimmyonecoat by half a length after finding himself in the lead.

'When the ground turns soft we'll put him away and go chasing next year,' revealed Treacy.

Premount left his recent form well behind to take the Hibernian Life & Pensions Handicap Chase. Patrick Hassett's gelding swept into the lead turning for home and stayed on well to beat Chain by a length-and-a-half.

Zululand made every yard to open his account in the Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Hurdle while trainer Dessie Hughes recorded a double when Hows Trix stayed on well to see off the challenge of Basanna in the bumper.
