Review KILLARNEY 8TH MAY

Charlie Swan's Ransboro landed the feature race, the Europe Hotel Handicap Chase, at Killarney, under a strong Mike Darcy ride.

Ransboro tracked the leaders before getting to the front at the fourth last, and while tiring on the run-in, held on for a half length win over his former stable-mate Strong Project.

Afterwards, Swan mentioned 'both Ransboro and Strong Project used to go out in the field together everyday and were great old buddies!'

He also added 'Ransboro is likely to go to the sales, without another run, at Doncaster on May 22.'

Jockey Andrew McNamara produced Michael Hourigan's Flying Johnny M with perfect timing to win the McSweeney Arms Maiden Hurdle.

The gelded son of Flying Legend had chased the leaders and arrived to lead after jumping the final flight, staying on for a two and a half length win.

According to Hourigan Snr, Flying Johnny M, owned by the trainer's daughter Laura Hourigan, who was seen to good effect riding Pine Valley to win at the track yesterday, is for sale.

He continued 'Flying Johnny M couldn't win a point to point but jumps well, is fit and will be kept on the go during the summer.'

Long odds-on punters had few anxious moments in the opening The Laurels Bar Hurdle when Conna Castle (1/5 favourite) coasted home in neutral to account for Outlaw Princess, by five lengths.

Afterwards winning trainer Jimmy Mangan reported 'Conna Castle will go out on grass now and will go chasing next season. His main aim is the Arkle Chase at Cheltenham in March but there are plenty of races to be won before then.'

He added 'I bought him at Tattersalls as a four year old for 12,000Gns with the only bid: no one wanted him but, as the hammer came down, the auctioneer mentioned 'it's your lucky day Jimmy!'.'

Killeagh, Co Cork restricted licence holder Joe Hennessy saddled Lucy May to win the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Beginners Chase, with second past the post Tushna subsequently disqualified for weighing in 16lbs light after racing without a lead bag.

Lucy May was ridden by Tommy Treacy, who substituted for the injured Denis O'Regan (sore) and Hennessy later reported 'she's in foal to Brian Boru and may have one more run.'

Dual purpose trainer John Murphy can do no wrong at present and was on the mark with Ciao in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Maiden, under Danny Grant, claiming a valuable 3lb allowance.

Murphy later reported 'I was a bit worried about the ground and although she's tiny, had been 'knocking on the door' recently.'

Pat Martin's Buddy Man came from off the pace to win the Killarney Vintners Handicap under Chris Geoghegan.
