Review KILLARNEY 19TH JUL

Piltown wore down his rivals in the closing stages of the Dawn Milk Run Handicap Hurdle to put himself in line for a tilt at the Galway Hurdle in two weeks time.

Joe Crowley's charge was delivered with a well-timed effort by Davy Russell to claim the final day feature in front of a bumper crowd at Killarney.

The four-year-old challenged out wide down the straight and found an extra gear on the run-in to score by two lengths.

'He's in the Galway Hurdle and has got 9st 7lb in it,' said Crowley's assistant Damien Byrne. 'He's also in a 2m3f handicap hurdle there. He may go for the Galway Hurdle.'

Ladbrokes were clearly impressed with the effort, halving the winner in price for the Ballybrit feature from 40/1 to 20/1.

Dual Galway Plate winner Ansar made a highly encouraging return to action when staying on strongly in the closing stages to finish second in the 2m1f handicap later on the card.

The contest saw the Kevin O'Brien-trained Our Monty open his account with an impressive seven-length victory.

Captain Cee Bee also got off the mark in tremendous style in the Dawn Omega Milk Maiden when trouncing his rivals by nine lengths.

Trainer Eddie Harty has a high opinion of the gelding, who led early in the straight under Kevin Manning and soon put daylight between himself and the others.

'He's a lovely horse. I always thought he was good enough for a Listed race on the Flat and he may still be,' said Harty.

'Hopefully he'll go jumping for me, but with a different owner. I always thought he was good enough for Cheltenham. He'll have a break now and we'll find something for him in September or October - then he'll go jumping in the Autumn.'

Field Commander proved too tough for his rivals in the opening novice hurdle when battling gamely to gain a length success under Andrew McNamara.

Michael Hourigan's charge bounced out in front and fought doggedly to preserve his advantage when tackled by Cloone Rocket down the straight.

'He'll make a proper chaser next season,' said Hourigan. 'He's a novice over hurdles for this season. I'll talk to Michael (O'Leary) - he might go home for a break.'

'He could be aimed at some of the festivals and might make a Cheltenham horse. We won't get carried away but any horse that wins three hurdles is not too bad.'

Amarjit is Galway bound after a cosy win in the Aghadoe Heights Hotel Handicap Hurdle.

Denis O'Regan produced his mount to challenge in the straight before asking for an effort approaching the final flight. He always had the measure of Stringerthestinger and was value for more than his length-and-three quarters margin.

'He's a game little horse and hopefully he'll head to Galway now as long as it's not a mud bath. He could go for one or two of the two miles handicaps on the Flat,' said trainer Robbie Osborne.

Misima Sunrise sprang a 20/1 shock when landing the first division of the mile handicap while Shesthebiscuit battled gamely to hold off the challenge of Togher Castle in the second leg.
